Fire Defeats the Broken Thing

In Fire’s existence, there was always something perpetually broken.

He repeatedly attempted to fix it.

Though it seemed okay for a moment,

it always found a way to break again.

Fire examined the broken thing from every angle.

“Why does it keep breaking?” he wondered.

It shouldn’t have been broken,

but it kept getting in the way.

It came broken—perhaps that was why it was given away.

“Maybe that’s why they were so eager to part with it,” he thought.

It felt cursed—

always defiant, always mocking.

Fire’s explosions were increasing.

He even considered its total and utter destruction.

Tired from the fight, he lay on the ground, defeated.

“I can’t leave it like this,” he thought.

“There has to be a way.”

“Starting from scratch would be far more expensive.”

After many days, Fire finally tried what he had been hesitating to do.

“I can’t think of anything else.”

What a glorious moment!

He felt as if he finally understood the broken thing a little better.

You see, it had been held together by hacks.

What it truly needed was a permanent solution.

It didn’t look pretty,

but at least it wouldn’t be a bother anymore.

Fire felt relieved and a sense of accomplishment.

“What else do I need to fix?”
